I was born on October 31st which makes me a Scorpio. Now, I am not a big believer of star signs making you a certain personality otherwise there would only be 12 different personalities on the earth. However, I have always been interested in what you can see in the sky, so I thought that I may as well start with something relevant to me!
The Constellation of Scorpius is the 33rd biggest in the sky and has 15 main stars. Amongst others it is bordered by other Zodiac constellations such as Libra and Sagittarius and is most visible during the month of July.
Scorpius has great lore in ancient mythology – the ancient Greeks believed it to be a scorpion sent to kill Orion. The ancient Chinese believe the constellation is part of a dragon whilst the old Polynesians think that the collection of stars represents a fish hook.
I am just getting started with observing the night sky but find it extremely fascinating. There is something truly amazing in looking up and seeing something so far in the past but that is another story for another post….
